Melbourne-based singer-songwriter, performer and multidisciplinary artist Damen Samuel is a travelling troubadour whose music blends Folk, Rock, Jazz and Soul with an unmistakably expressive voice. His songs weave personal stories of memory, connection, loss and identity into rich, genre-bending soundscapes.

Born and raised in the former socialist East Germany, Damen began writing poetry and songs against a backdrop of political constraint. His journey eventually took him to New York City, where he immersed himself in the Brooklyn and Lower East Side music scenes, developing his distinctive voice as a songwriter and performer. His work has since taken him across Australia, Europe, the United States and Japan.

Damen’s recordings include the EP Storyteller, produced by Grammy-winning producer Silas Brown (Chick Corea), and the albums A Gypsy’s Lullaby and Odyssey. Recorded in New York with producer Kieran Kelly (Angus & Julia Stone), Odyssey featured Matt Johnson of Jeff Buckley’s band and led to extensive touring, including a performance at New York’s CMJ Music Marathon. His music has received international airplay and acclaim, with Rolling Stone describing his performances as “powerfully and expressively” involving and convincing.

With German and Nigerian roots, Damen continues to move between Melbourne, the US and Europe, connecting music with storytelling, film and visual art.
His new album, Goodbye Tomorrow, arrives in November 2026. Across ten songs, it explores memory, departure, vulnerability, responsibility and the traces we leave behind — ultimately asking what it means to be fully present when tomorrow is never guaranteed.
The album’s focus single, “Devil’s Breakfast,” is set for release in October 2026.
